ドゥシャス・デ･ブルゴーニュは、15世紀にフランスとベルギーの一部を統治したブルゴーニュのマリー･ド･ブルゴーニュ公女にちなんで命名されました。 彼女の統治期間はわずか５年とたいへん短い間でしたが、ビールの醸造を含む数多くの商業活動を支援しました。ドゥシャス・デ・ブルゴーニュは、彼女の功績を称え命名されました。

ドゥシャス・デ・ブルゴーニュは伝統的な複合発酵により造られる、フランダース地方のレッド・ビールです。パッションフルーツやチェリーのような爽やかな酸味はローストされた麦芽の甘味とあいまって、たいへんバランスのよいビールとなっています。主発酵の後、オーク樽で18ヵ月に及ぶ熟成期間中に、オーク樽のタンニンによってフルーティーな香りがビールに付きます。この18ヵ月熟成のビールと8ヶ月熟成の若いビールがブレンドされ、ドゥシャス・デ・ブルゴーニュが出来上がります。

ヴェルハーゲ醸造所は、ヴィヒテナールというレッド・ビールの上級品としてドゥシャス・デ・ブルゴーニュの醸造を始めました。アルコール度数はヴィヒテナールの5.1％より少し高めの6.2％で、よりコクがあり洗練された、たいへんバランスのよいビールです。
ドゥシャス・デ・ブルゴーニュは爽やかな酸味とほどよい余韻の甘味を持つ、フランダース地方のレッド・ビールの代表格です。

Duchesse de Bourgogne is named after Mary of Burgundy, who ruled parts of France and Belgium during the 15th century. Although her reign was brief—lasting only five years—she supported numerous commercial activities, including beer brewing. Duchesse de Bourgogne was named to honor her legacy.

Duchesse de Bourgogne is a Flemish Red Ale crafted through a traditional mixed-fermentation process. Its refreshing acidity—reminiscent of passion fruit and cherry—complements the sweetness of roasted malt, resulting in a remarkably well-balanced beer. Following primary fermentation, the beer ages in oak barrels for 18 months, during which time tannins from the wood impart fruity aromas. Duchesse de Bourgogne is created by blending this 18-month-aged beer with a younger, 8-month-aged beer.

Brouwerij Verhaeghe began brewing Duchesse de Bourgogne as a premium version of their “Vichtenaar” red ale. With an alcohol content of 6.2%—slightly higher than Vichtenaar’s 5.1%—it offers a richer, more refined, and exceptionally balanced flavor profile.
Duchesse de Bourgogne stands as a quintessential example of Flemish Red Ale, characterized by its refreshing acidity and a pleasant, lingering sweetness.
